I’ve created 4 WordPress websites “from scratch”, using drag-and-drop builders, themes, and templates. My first website was built completely out of necessity when I was starting out in my business and had no means of hiring a web developer.
Full disclosure: Because the first three were started when I was very inexperienced (and, thus, have been Frankensteined with updates over the years), they don’t perform as well as I’d like. Speeds are slow because the themes I chose were heavy and I’ve only been able to offload so much. But each has been a phenomenal, hands-on learning experience that continues to help me learn more and improve my skills over time.

RVer Job Exchange
For the RVer Job Exchange, I was a veritable Swiss Army Knife of content strategy and creation skills, one of which was WordPress. I helped increase site performance, create pages and user flows, and make updates for both strategic and technical purposes.
Theme / Builder
- Identified that while the theme was built using WP Bakery, most of the site was built using Elementor
- Recognized that running 2 active builders was weighing down the site and making it much slower
- Identified all pages and processes using WPBakery and recreated them using Elementor
- Eliminated WPBakery and significantly increased site speed
Pages, Plugins, & SEO
- Pages: Eliminated 54 superfluous pages (from 135 down to 81)
- Plugins: Identified & eliminated 8 redundant plugins
- SEO: Improved blog post layout and SEO functionality (Table of Contents, better SEO phrase usage)

- Homepage initially started out targeting job seekers AND any/all types of employers
- Reorganized to focus only on the job seeker experience, with a ‘For Employers’ button in the top right – very much in keeping with popular industry web design trends

- Started as a single page targeting 3 very different types of employers
- Created a split selection page in order to create 2 different flows to properly target the 2 (very) different types of employers
- Combined 2 employer types into 1 (for a new total of 2 employer types), then created 2 different employer pages to target each type
